FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT REGIONAL TREATMENT CENTRE (PACIFIC)

Abbotsford, BC, February 23, 2011 – Roger Brummell, an inmate from the Regional Treatment Center, died of apparent natural causes yesterday. He had been at outside hospital for treatment following an extended illness.

Mr. Brummell was 72 years old. He was a recidivist offender serving an indeterminate sentence for Sexual Assault commencing October 10, 1997.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Pacific Institution and the Regional Treatment Centre are co-located in Abbotsford. The facility includes a 20-bed Medical Hospital, 10-bed Complex Needs Unit, 96-bed Psychiatric Hospital, 96-bed Rehabilitation Unit, 127-bed Program Unit and a 127-bed Regional Reception and Assessment Centre.
