MISSION, B.C., March 21, 2011 - Mission Institution is locked down following an inmate assault.
At approximately 8:25 a.m. on March 21, Correctional staff were alerted to an inmate who had been assaulted by another inmate. Institutional Health Services responded and assessed his condition; he was transported via ambulance to an outside hospital for further assessment and treatment.
The RCMP and the Institution's Security Intelligence Office are investigating the incident. The Institution will remain locked down during the investigation and will re-open when management determines it is safe to do so.
No staff or other inmates were injured during this incident.
Mission Institution is a federal medium-security institution located just north of the City of Mission. The institution currently houses 272 inmates.
