Mission, BC, April 17, 2011 - On April 17, 2011, inmate James Edward ROGERS was discovered missing at the Ferndale Institution’s 11:00 a.m. count. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mission Detachment, and a warrant was issued for the inmate’s arrest.
Inmate ROGERS was apprehended without incident a few hours later by the RCMP. He is serving a Life Sentence for First Degree Murder, which commenced June 22, 1984.
CSC worked closely with the RCMP, providing all available information to assist in the inmate’s recapture. CSC will investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape and take all necessary measures to address safety and security issues stemming from this incident.
Ferndale Institution is a minimum-security federal facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in the district of Mission and currently houses 129 male offenders. Only those inmates who are assessed as having a low risk to public safety are placed in a minimum security Institution.
