FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH – MATSQUI INSTITUTION

Abbotsford, BC, September 12, 2011 –Torben Campbell, an inmate from Matsqui Institution, died on September 12, 2011 while at outside hospital for treatment.

Mr. Campbell was 29 years old and was serving a three year, six month and fourteen day sentence for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle x2, theft over, forgery, and fraud under x3. His sentence commenced on November 22, 2010 and was to expire on June 5, 2014. Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies in custody, the police and Coroner’s Service have been called to investigate. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct a review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security facility operated by CSC. It is located in Abbotsford and currently houses 274 male offenders.
