Abbotsford, British Columbia, November 1st, 2011 – On October 31st, 2011, inmate David Alexander Beattie from the Regional Treatment Centre (Pacific) died of natural causes while at outside hospital following a lengthy illness.
At the time of his death, Mr. Beattie, 76 years old, was serving a 2 year, 10 month, sentence for Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Disqualified, and Mischief in Relation to Other Property. His sentence had commenced on April 6th, 2011.
Next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
