FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH AT MISSION INSTITUTION

Mission, BC, December 3, 2011 - On December 2, Troy Squires, an inmate from Mission Institution, was found unresponsive.

Emergency Services were notified and arrived at the institution, but they were unable to revive the Offender.

At the time of his death, Mr. Squires, 39, was serving an indeterminate sentence for forcible confinement, sexual assault, utter threat to cause death/harm, assault with weapon, overcome resistance – choke.  His sentence commenced on January 17, 2006.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are notified. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
