EDMONTON, Alberta, June 19, 2004 - At approximately 22:00 hrs today, a minimum security inmate walked away from the Stan Daniels Healing centre. Police were notified immediately.
The inmate was last seen by staff during their 20:00 hrs formal count and was discovered to be missing when the 22:00 hrs formal count was completed.
The missing inmate is Christopher Quinney, 42 year old aboriginal offender, serving a two year six month sentence for robbery and fail to comply. His sentence commenced on 2002-03-22 and was due to expire on 2004-09-21. His statutory release date was 2004-07-12. He is 5' 6" tall, weighs 155 lbs and has a medium complexion with brown eyes and brown hair.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Quinney is asked to contact police.
The Stan Daniels Healing Center is operated and staffed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) and is located at 9516 101 Avenue in downtown Edmonton. NCSA provides a range of spiritual and correctional programs to both offenders on conditional release and minimum security inmates through agreement with the Solicitor General of Canada. At the time of the incident, there were 20 inmates and 35 conditionally released offenders residing at the Stan Daniels Healing Center.
The Correctional Service of Canada and Native Counselling Services of Alberta will be conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
