HOBBEMA, AB, August 17, 2004 - At approximately 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2004, inmate Ricky Junior Yellowknee escaped from Pê Sâkâstêw Centre. Police were notified and a warrant for the inmates arrest was issued.
The missing inmate is Ricky Junior Yellowknee, 20 years old, serving 3 years for robbery - all others, assault - use of force, and disguise with intent. His sentence commenced April 16, 2003. His day parole eligibility date was October 16, 2003. His full parole eligibility date was April 15, 2004. His statutory release date is August 25, 2005 and warrant expiry date is April 15, 2006. He weighs 132 pounds, and is five feet, five inches tall. He has a medium complexion with brown eyes and black hair.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Mr. Yellowknee is asked to contact police.
Pê Sâkâstêw Centre is a minimum security institution that accommodates up to 60 offenders. Pê Sâkâstêw Centre is located on Samson Cree Nation land, 1.5 km southwest of Hobbema - 80 km south of Edmonton.
The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape. This is the first incident of this type to occur at Pê Sâkâstêw Centre since April 1, 2004.
