CONTRABAND AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

DRUMHELLER, AB, October 20, 2004 - On Tuesday, October 19th, 2004, the Drug Detection Dog, with the aid of the Institutional Search Coordinator-Canine Handler and the Security Intelligence Officer, located a significant amount of narcotics during a routine search. The narcotics were found hidden inside material entering the institution. The seized narcotics have a value inside the prison of approximately $17,750.00, making this one of the largest drug seizures at Drumheller Institution.

The Correctional Service of Canada uses drug dogs as part of regular security checks to detect the presence of drugs within institutions. The Correctional Service of Canada and the Drumheller RCMP continue to work together to intercept illegal drugs that persons may be bringing into the community and the institution.

The Correctional Service of Canada and the RCMP are continuing their investigation. Once the process is completed appropriate action will be taken.
