STONY MOUNTAIN, MB, October 21, 2004 - At approximately 10:35 p.m. yesterday, a minimum security inmate at Rockwood Institution could not be located. A thorough search of the buildings and grounds surrounding the institution was done but failed to find the inmate. Both the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service have been notified.
The missing inmate, Richard Fortin, 40-years-old, is serving a three year and seven month sentence for break and enter and drug-related offences. His sentence commenced May 14, 2002. He is 171 cm tall (5' 7"), weighs 93 kg (206 lbs.), and has short black hair and brown eyes. He has multiple tattoos on his arms.The escape will be the focus of a detailed investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada.
Rockwood Institution is a minimum security federal facility located adjacent to the medium security Stony Mountain Institution, 13 km north of Winnipeg. The institution currently has a population of 86 minimum security inmates.
