DEATH AT STONY MOUNTAIN INSTITUTION

STONY MOUNTAIN, AB, November 23, 2004 - At approximately 1:10 am on November 20, 2004 an inmate was found in his cell by correctional officers to be in medical distress.

An ambulance was immediately called and at approximately 1:30 am, the inmate was taken to Seven Oaks Hospital by ambulance with a Correctional Service of Canada escort. At approximately 6:00 am, while still in the Winnipeg Hospital, he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is believed to be related to a pre existing terminal condition.

The deceased inmate, Barry Antill, 64 years old, was serving a 10 year sentence for attempted robbery, wearing a disguise, and pointing a firearm. His sentence commenced on October 19, 2004 and was due to expire on October 18, 2014. The next of kin has been notified.

Stony Mountain Institution is a medium security federal penitentiary located 11 km north of Winnipeg. Currently there are 468 inmates incarcerated at Stony Mountain Institution.
