DUCK LAKE, SK, May 24, 2005 - At approximately 9:40 PM yesterday, a count of inmates at Willow Cree Healing Lodge revealed one inmate to be missing. An immediate search of the facility and grounds was conducted but failed to locate the inmate. The RCMP was notified. The inmate was last seen during the Institution's 8:40 PM count.
The missing inmate is Gordon Kambeitz; 51 years old serving a 3-year sentence for a variety of property related offences including break and enter and commit, break enter w/intent, possess break-in instruments, mischief in relation to other, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, attempt indictable offence, theft over, and fraud over. His sentence commenced on 2004-03-08 and was due to expire on 2007-03-07. His statutory release date is 2006-03-08. He is 165 cm tall (5'5") and weighs 86 kg (190 lbs). He has a medium complexion, brown eyes and grey hair.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the above offender is asked to contact their local police agency.
Willow Cree Healing Lodge is a minimum security institution that accommodates 40 inmates. There have been no escapes from this facility since the opening of the facility in April of 2004.
Minimum security offenders are those who are rated as low escape risks, low risk to the public in the event of an escape and display progress in dealing with identified problem areas through correctional plan participation.
The Correctional Service Canada will be conducting a complete investigation surrounding circumstances of this escape.
