INMATES RAISE MONEY FOR THE CHILDREN'S WISH FOUNDATION

PRINCE ALBERT, SK, October 17, 2005 - On Saturday October 15, 2005, over 100 inmates of Saskatchewan Penitentiary participated in a one-kilometre walk in the exercise yard to raise money for the Children's Wish Foundation's Wishmaker Parade.

Initiated by the Inmate Welfare Committee, the inmates pledged various amounts of money, and raised over $600 to donate to the Children's Wish Foundation. The inmates also recently raised $400 that was donated to a Saskatchewan family to help a little girl's fight against leukemia.

In every community where a federal institution is located, the Correctional Service of Canada becomes a part of that community and feels a strong sense of responsibility to get involved in a positive way. The inmates' participation in this event allows them to give something back to the community, and it fosters a sense of accountability and responsibility.

Saskatchewan Penitentiary is a medium security institution currently accommodating 392 inmates. It also contains a separate Maximum Security Unit, which can accommodate an additional 80 inmates.
