FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRINCE ALBERT, SK, December 13, 2005 - At approximately 06:50 hours on Tuesday December 13, 2005 a 52 year old male inmate, was discovered to be non-responsive to staff. CPR was administered at the scene and the inmate was pronounced dead by paramedics a short while later. The inmate was housed in the intake assessment unit of the institution.

The Coroner and RCMP have attended the institution and no foul play is suspected at this time. The name of the deceased inmate will not be released until next of kin are notified.

The RCMP and institutional officials are investigating the incident.

Saskatchewan Penitentiary is a medium security institution currently accommodating 385 inmates. It also contains a separate maximum security unit, which can accommodate an additional 80 inmates.
