FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM TEMPORARY ESCORTED ABSENCE

DRUMHELLER, AB, March 9, 2006 - At approximately 2:00 p.m. yesterday a medium security inmate from Drumheller Institution escaped the custody of his escort while on a temporary absence to Calgary, Alberta.

The missing inmate is Leonard Kootenay, 24 years of age serving a 3 year 1 month sentence for assault causing bodily harm, break enter & commit theft under, break enter & commit theft over, break enter w/intent, utter forged document and traffic in schedule 1/11 substance. His sentence commenced April 1, 2005 and is due to expire April 30, 2008. Mr. Kootenay is eligible for statutory release on April 21, 2007. He is 178 cm tall, weighing 93 kg, medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair.

The Calgary Police Services were notified and a warrant for the inmate's arrest was issued. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Leonard Kootenay is encouraged to contact their local police.

Drumheller Institution is located 140 km northeast of Calgary and currently accommodates 507 medium security inmate and 54 minimum security inmates.
