FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

DRUMHELLER, AB, March 19, 2006 - At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006, inmate Dale Trenton from Drumheller Institution collapsed and was taken to the Health Care Unit immediately. CPR was administered and he was subsequently transferred via ambulance to Drumheller General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner's office and police have been notified. The cause of death is undetermined. At this time there is no indication of foul play.

Drumheller Institution has been locked down since Saturday evening to accommodate the police investigation. The Institution will return to normal operation this evening.

The deceased inmate, Dale Trenton, 40 years old, was serving a six year sentence for robbery with threats of violence. His sentence commenced September 19, 2005 and was due to expire on September 18, 2011. Next of kin have been notified.

Drumheller Institution, located in Drumheller, Alberta, was opened in 1967 and provides accommodation for medium-security inmates. It also includes an integrated 72-bed minimum-security facility.

The death will be the focus of a detailed review by the Correctional Service of Canada. Provincial legislation also directs that fatality inquiries follow whenever an offender dies while in custody.
