DRUMHELLER, AB, April 7, 2006 - Inmates at Drumheller Institution were locked in their cells as the institution was placed on lockdown last evening at 6:45 pm to facilitate a thorough search of the institution.
The lockdown was initiated when a number of syringes were discovered missing from the Health Care Centre at the institution. The institutional search has recovered the majority of the syringes.
The institution remains on lockdown until the search is complete. Normal operations are expected to resume Saturday, April 8th, 2006.
Drumheller Institution is a medium security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Drumheller, Alberta and has a current population of 574 male offenders.
