FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT EDMONTON INSTITUTION

EDMONTON, AB, June 23, 2006 - As part of a medical assessment of an inmate, Edmonton Institution Health Care Services staff determined that an inmate should be taken to an outside hospital for assessment. The inmate was transported by ambulance at 16:30 hours to Grey Nuns Hospital. The inmate was pronounced dead by a physician at the hospital at approximately 17:45 hrs.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police (Edmonton Police Service) was called in to investigate. CSC will also be conducting an investigation. The deceased inmate's known next of kin was notified.

The deceased inmate, Reginald Dale Gogerla was a 42 year old, caucasian male, second-time federal offender serving a 2 year, 3 month and 10 day sentence for cause a disturbance by screaming, dangerous driving, theft over, hit/run with vehicle, fail to remain at scene of crime, disqualified driving, fail to hold valid operators license and fail to appear. His sentence commenced 2006-05-02 and was due to expire on 2008-08-12.

Edmonton Institution is a maximum security federal penitentiary located 15 km north of Edmonton. Currently there are 235 inmates incarcerated at Edmonton Institution.
