FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM ROCKWOOD INSTITUTION

STONY MOUNTAIN, MB, September 7, 2006 - At approximately 9:45 p.m. last evening, a minimum security inmate at Rockwood Institution could not be located. A thorough search of the buildings and grounds surrounding the institution was done but failed to find the inmate. Both the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service have been notified.

The missing inmate, Earl Macaulay, 47-years-old, is serving a forty year, 6 month sentence for various past offences that include robbery, obstruction of a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime and use of a firearm while committing. His sentence commenced February 13, 1980. He is 170 cm tall (5' 7"), weighs 68 kg (150 lbs), and has brown hair and hazel colored eyes. He has several tattoos on both forearms and scars on his abdomen.

The escape will be the focus of a detailed investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada.

Rockwood Institution is a minimum security federal facility located adjacent to the medium security Stony Mountain Institution, 13 km north of Winnipeg. The institution currently has a population of 108 minimum security inmates.
