A thorough search of the buildings and grounds surrounding the institution was done but failed to find the inmate. Both the RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service have been notified.

The missing inmate, Cory Deschenes, 21 years-old, is serving a three year sentence for various past offences that include robbery with threats of violence, mischief and possession of property obtained by crime. His sentence commenced February 3, 2006. He is 173 cm tall (5'8"), weighs 82 kg (181 lbs), has brown hair and brown colored eyes. He has tattoos on both forearms and a 2" scar on his head.

The escape will be the focus of an internal investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada.
