DRUMHELLER, AB, April 27, 2007 - Drumheller Institution inmates have been locked in their cells to facilitate an exceptional search. The search began at about 1800hrs on April 26. The search was triggered after information was received that an attempt had been made to introduce a large quantity of narcotics into the institution.
The Institution will remain locked down while staff complete a thorough search of the institution. The search is expected to take a few more days. Visits to the institution will be suspended for the duration of the search.
Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km southeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 541 medium security and 71 minimum security inmates.
