ESCAPE FROM BOWDEN INSTITUTION

INNISFAIL, AB, April 30, 2007 - On Sunday April 29 sometime between 0100 and 0230 hours one of the inmates housed at the Minimum Security Farm Annex escaped from the facility.

Search protocol was immediately engaged that included support and assistance from the Innisfail detachment of the RCMP. A search of the grounds, buildings and surrounding area failed to locate the inmate. CSC will continue to work closely with the police in an effort to locate the inmate as quickly as possible.

The missing inmate is Brian Reid, a 38 year old non-violent offender, serving a three year, six day sentence for drinking and driving related offences. His sentence commenced on December 4, 2006. He is 170 cm tall and weighs 76 kg with a fair complexion, dense brown hair and brown eyes.

This is the first such incident this year. The institution had no escapes in 2006. The most recent previous escape, in June of 2005, saw the inmate recaptured in four days.

Regular ongoing reviews of all minimum security offenders are completed to ensure that their placements are appropriate.

The escape will also be the focus of a detailed review by the Correctional Service of Canada.

Bowden Institution is a federal penitentiary located 100 km north of Calgary, currently accommodating 575 medium security and 72 minimum security inmates.
