FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPES FROM GRIERSON CENTRE

EDMONTON, AB, May 20, 2007 - At approximately 5:00 pm on May, 20, two minimum security inmates could not be found at the Grierson Centre. A search of the building, surrounding complex and grounds was made but did not locate the inmates. Police were notified. The inmates were last seen at the Centre during an institutional count at 12:00 PM on May, 20th.

The missing inmates are:

Kari Roang, 25 years old, serving a two year, 12 day sentence for possession of property obtained by crime under (x2), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operate motor vehicle - flight, theft under, fail to attend court. His sentence commenced on April, 04, 2006. He is 185 cm tall (six feet, one inch), weighs 81 kilograms (179 lbs.) and has a fair complexion with blue eyes and brown hair.

Keith Underwood 26 years old, serving a four year sentence for possession of a Schedule I/II substance for the purpose of trafficking, operate motor vehicle while disqualified, his sentence commenced on October, 19, 2006. He is 185 cm tall (six feet, one inch), weighs 82 kilograms (181 lbs.) and has a fair complexion with blue eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Roang and Underwood are asked to contact police.

The Grierson Centre is a minimum security institution that accommodates 30 inmates. Grierson Centre is part of the Grierson Complex located at 9530 101 Avenue in downtown Edmonton.

Minimum security offenders are those who have been assessed as presenting a low escape risk, low risk to the public in the event of an escape and who display progress in dealing with identified problem areas through correctional plan participation.

This is the first and second escapes from the Centre this year. Last year there were four escapes.

The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this escape.
