FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT THE REGIONAL PSYCHIATRIC CENTRE

SASKATOON, SK, July 13, 2007 - At approximately 09:00 hours on July 12, patient Peter Williams at the Regional Psychiatric Centre died as a result of a lengthy terminal illness.

The patient was 83 years-old, serving a determinate sentence which had commenced in September, 2003. He had been admitted to the Regional Psychiatric Centre to receive palliative care. Centre staff had been providing him supportive care for several months.

The death may be the subject of a coroner's inquest as is common with any death of a person in custody.

The Regional Psychiatric Centre is a 206 bed psychiatric hospital, accredited by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation, and operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Saskatoon and has a formal Affiliation Agreement with the University of Saskatchewan. The hospital is rated as a multi-security level environment. There are currently 185 patients receiving assessment and/or treatment at the Centre.
