DRUMHELLER, AB, October 22, 2007 - Drumheller Institution inmates have been locked in their cells to facilitate an exceptional search. The search began at about 9 p.m. on October 21. The search was triggered after information was received that inmates were about to be injured. The search is intended to locate and remove prison made weapons and other unauthorized items which may possibly be on site.
The Institution will remain locked down while staff complete a thorough search of the institution. The search will maintain a safe environment for staff and offenders. The search will be completed as soon as possible.
Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km southeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 597 medium security and 71 minimum security inmates.
