FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRINCE ALBERT, SK, December 29, 2007 - At approximately 4:35 p.m. on Friday December 28, 2007 a 48-year old male inmate was found unconscious in his cell. Staff administered CPR at the scene and Garry Roderick Cardinal was pronounced dead a short while later.

The death is not considered suspicious. Next of kin have been notified.

The RCMP and institutional officials are currently investigating the death.

Saskatchewan Penitentiary is a medium security institution, which also contains a separate maximum security unit. There are currently a total of 609 inmates housed at the facility.
