FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE FIGHT AT EDMONTON INSTITUTION

EDMONTON, AB, July 1, 2008 - At approximately 3 p.m. a major altercation involving several inmates occurred at Edmonton Institution. The altercation resulted in several inmate injuries.

Eight inmates are receiving medical care at outside hospital. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time. No staff were injured during this incident.

The institution is currently on lockdown.

Edmonton Institution is a maximum security facility operated by the Correctional Service of Canada. It is located in Edmonton, Alberta and currently houses a population of 242 male offenders.
