Stony Mountain, (PRAI) December 17, 2008 - Former inmate Rene DUROCHER was presented the Pierre Allard Award by Member of Parliament Ms. Shelly GLOVER (Saint Boniface) on behalf of Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan during a ceremony at Stony Mountain Institution on December 15, 2008.
Mr. Durocher served more than 24 years as an inmate in federal penitentiaries. He was eventually considered for parole and returned to the community approximately 17 years ago. Since that time, he has made significant and positive contributions to the community in such a way as to service as an inspiration for others.
The Pierre Allard award was established in 2006 to honour former Correctional Service of Canada Assistant Commissioner Reverend Doctor Pierre Allard and his commitment o furthering the development of the field of restorative justice and community engagement. The award is presented annually to a former federal offender who has lived as a law-abiding citizen for at least 10-years, who has been identified by the community as a person of integrity and strength, and as someone who has been identified as a model citizen who has made significant contributions to the community through their service to the public.
