FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT ON INMATE AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

DRUMHELLER, AB, January 22, 2009 - On January 22, 2009 at approximately 8:00 a.m. a 36-year- old inmate was assaulted at Drumeheller Institution. The injured inmate was taken by ambulance to an outside hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The institution is under lockdown to facilitate the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and RCMP conducting their investigations.

The CSC will continue to work with the police in an effort review of the circumstances surrounding the incident and take action when necessary.
