FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REGIONAL PSYCHIATRIC CENTRE, Saskatoon, SK, January 28, 2009 - Following a series of tests performed by Saskatoon Health Region, Health Services staff at the Regional Psychiatric Centre (RPC) yesterday confirmed a case of Norovirus (Norwalk) in one inmate.
Staff at RPC contacted Health Officials with the Health Region last week after eight inmates displayed flu-like systems that included vomiting and diarrhea. The institution was quickly placed on modified routine with inmate movement limited and the temporary suspension of contract work.
Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) extends its appreciation to the Saskatoon Health Region for its assistance in this matter. Maintaining the public health of staff members, inmates and the general public is a key priority for the CSC.
