ASSAULT AT BOWDEN INSTITUTION

BOWDEN, AB - On March 8, 2009 during the afternoon hours, a 32 year-old inmate was assaulted at Bowden Institution. The injured inmate was taken by ambulance to an outside hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The institution remains under lockdown to facilitate an investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and RCMP.

CSC will continue to work with the police to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and will take action where necessary.

Bowden Institution is a federal penitentiary located 100 km north of Calgary, currently accommodating 585 medium security and 79 minimum security inmates.
