FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

DRUMHELLER, AB - On March 15, 2009 at approximately 0900 hours, a 23 year-old inmate was assaulted at Drumheller Institution. The injured inmate was taken by ambulance to an outside hospital and was subsequently returned to the institution with non-life-threatening injuries.

The institution remains under lockdown to facilitate an investigation by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and RCMP.

CSC will continue to work with the police to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and will take action where necessary.
