CONTRABAND SEIZURE AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION, Drumheller, Alberta – On April 10, 2009 Correctional Officers conducting a patrol in the yard of Drumheller Institution found a large number of contraband items including cell phones, illegal drugs and tobacco.

Estimated institutional value for the contraband seized is $115,000.

Correctional Service Canada has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders, visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs an searches of buildings and cells.

Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km northeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 512 medium security and 69 minimum security inmates
