FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ESCAPES FROM MINIMUM SECURITY Pê Sâkâstêw Centre

Hobbema, Alberta - At approximately 12:30 a.m. on May 24, 2009 staff discovered inmate Charles Cardinal missing from Pê Sâkâstêw Centre. Police were notified and a warrant for the inmate's arrest was issued.

Cardinal is 24 years old, serving 2 years 10 months for the following offences:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime-Under $5000 (x2), Operating Motor Vehicle-Flight (x2), Fail to Stop at a Motor Vehicle Accident (x2), Theft Under and Offence under MV Act (x2).

Cardinal weighs approximately 141 pounds, and is 5'9" feet tall. He has a medium complexion with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Cardinal is asked to contact police.

Correctional Service Canada will be reviewing the circumstances surrounding the escape.

Pê Sâkâstêw Centre is a minimum-security facility in Hobbema, Alberta that accommodates 60 inmates.
