FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE FIGHT AT EDMONTON INSTITUTION

Edmonton, Alberta, June 8, 2009 – At approximately 3:30 p.m., an assault occurred in the recreation yard of Edmonton Institution.

Five inmates were injured and one was taken to outside hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No staff were injured in the assault.

Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances around this incident.

Edmonton Institution is a maximum security institution operated by Correctional Service Canada located in Edmonton, Alberta. Current institutional population is 230 male offenders.
