Drumheller, Alberta, September 14, 2009 - At approximately 10:15 a.m., September 13, a 25-year-old inmate at Drumheller Institution reported to staff that he had been assaulted. He was taken to an outside hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Following the assault the institution was placed in lockdown. The inmates will be on cell lock up until further notice. The offenders are being served meals in their living units. Visits have been cancelled.
CSC works to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.
The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.
Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km northeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 597 medium security and 72 minimum security inmates.
