FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM BOWDEN INSTITUTION

Innisfail, Alberta, September 15, 2009 - At approximately 9:17 p.m. on September 14, 2009, staff determined that Shawn Thomas Evjen had escaped from medium security Bowden Institution.

Staff conducted a search of the facility and surrounding property. Police were notified. The institution is currently locked down. Shawn Thomas Evjen is a 46-year-old offender serving a sentence of 24 years, six months and 20 days for Robbery - Use of Firearm, Assault Peace Officer, Disguise with Intent, Possession of a Weapon and Armed Robbery. His sentence commenced July 9,1985. He is 170 cm (5'7") tall and weighs 75 kgs (166 lbs). He has red hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Shawn Evjen is asked to contact their local police.

The Correctional Service of Canada is committed to working with our local law enforcement agencies and will review the circumstances surrounding the escape and take all necessary measures to address safety and security issues stemming from this incident.

Bowden Institution is a federal institution in Bowden, Alberta with a current population of 555 medium security inmates, 71 minimum security inmates.
