FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT GRANDE CACHE INSTITUTION

Grande Cache, Alberta, October 19, 2009 - In the early morning of October 19, 2009 an inmate from the Grande Cache Institution died of an apparent suicide while in custody.

The inmate was 33 years old and serving a five-year and one-month sentence for four counts of Robbery. Next-of-kin has been notified by the Edmonton Police Service.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called in to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Grande Cache Institution is a federal medium-security facility located approximately 450 kilometers Northwest of Edmonton, Alberta.
