FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

DRUMHELLER, AB, OCTOBER 21, 2009 - On Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at approximately 8:30 p.m., an inmate was assaulted by other inmates at Drumheller Institution. The injured inmate was taken to the local hospital and then transported by ambulance to a hospital in Calgary where he remains in serious condition.

The institution is under lockdown to facilitate investigations by the RCMP and the Correctional Service of Canada.

CSC works to ensure the continued safety and security of institutions, staff, and public.

Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km southeast of Calgary, with a total of 510 medium security and 67 minimum security inmates.
