LOCKDOWN AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

Drumheller, Alberta, February 26, 2010 – Drumheller Institution has been locked down to facilitate a search of the institution. The lockdown will include the cancellation of all scheduled visits to the inmates.

The decision for the lockdown and search was a result of intelligence information regarding contraband. The lockdown and search are being conducted to ensure the continued safety of the public, staff and inmates.

The institution will remain on lockdown status until institutional managers determine it is safe to return to normal routine.

Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km southeast of Calgary, with a total of 508 medium security and 57 minimum security inmates.
