Stony Mountain, Manitoba, April 13, 2010 – At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010, Stony Mountain Institution staff received information from a local citizen of suspicious activity in the area of Rockwood Institution. The information led to a determination that Rockwood inmate Devon SAMPSON had been in an area outside the boundaries of the institutional property. SAMPSON was apprehended quickly by correctional staff and returned to custody.
SAMPSON is a 30-year-old male offender serving a two-year sentence for Robbery which commenced April 6, 2009. Sampson had been assessed as being low risk to public safety.
The Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances around the incident and will take action as necessary. Rockwood Institution is a minimum security institution located adjacent to Stony Mountain Institution that houses 115 minimum security offenders.
