Stony Mountain, Manitoba, July 22, 2010 – On Thursday July 22nd at approximately 14:45., a group of inmates at Stony Mountain Institution refused to lock up in their cells. The disturbance was contained to one living unit. The offenders proceeded to destroy property and barricade themselves on their unit. Staff quickly intervened and negotiations were attempted. As a result of refusal by the inmates to establish communication, the Stony Mountain Institutional Emergency Response Team was deployed and the offenders were returned to their cells.
The incident was resolved quickly with no injuries to staff or inmates. Offenders involved are on a modified routine and the rest of the Institution remains on normal routine.
Police have been contacted.
