Duck Lake, Saskatchewan, July 23, 2010 - At 00:00 on July 23, 2010, staff from the Willow Cree Healing Lodge found that William BERLAND had escaped from an escorted temporary absence while at a Pow Wow in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. Mr. BERLAND was last seen at 22:00 hours on July 22, 2010.
William BERLAND is a 22-year-old first time offender serving a sentence of 5 years, 5 months for manslaughter. His sentence commenced November 26, 2007. He is 180 cm (5'11") tall and weighs 77 kgs (169 lbs). He has black hair and brown eyes.
The authorities have been notified and the Correctional Service of Canada will continue to work with the police in an effort to locate the offender as quickly as possible. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. BERLAND is asked to contact their local police department.
The Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident and will take necessary measures to address any safety and security issues stemming from this incident.
Willow Cree Healing Lodge is a federally operated minimum security institution currently accomodating 39 inmates.
