FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ESCAPE - MINIMUM SECURITY ROCKWOOD INSTITUTION

Stony Mountain, Manitoba, August 26, 2010 - At approximately 1130 hours on August 26, 2010, Stephen SAUNDERS escaped from Rockwood Institution.

Stephen SAUNDERS is a 54 year old federal offender serving a 2 year, 6 month sentence for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (x6), Driving while Disqualified, Possession of a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000 (x3) and Theft Under $5000. His sentence commenced on 2010-03-22. He stands 167 cm (5'6") tall and weighs 75 kgs (166 lbs). He has grey hair, grey beard and brown eyes.

The authorities have been notified and the Correctional Service of Canada will continue to work with the police in an effort to locate the offender as soon as possible. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. SAUNDERS is asked to contact their local police department.

The Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident and will take the necessary measures to address any safety and security issues stemming from this incident.

Rockwood Institution is a federally operated minimum security institution located 11 kilometers north of Winnipeg and adjacent to Stony Mountain Institution currently accommodating 127 offenders.
