FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE DEATH AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

Drumheller, Alberta, September 21, 2010 - At approximately 13:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 21, 2010, offender Billy-Joe CROW SHOE was found unresponsive in his cell by Correctional Officers at Drumheller Institution. Correctional Officers immediately performed CPR and an ambulance was called. The offender was taken to Drumheller Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1425 hours.

CROW SHOE was a 32 year-old offender serving a sentence of 2 years for Armed Robbery. Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies in custody, the police and coroner are called to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this incident.

Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km northeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 566 medium security and 71 minimum security inmates.
