LOCKDOWN AT DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

Drumheller, Alberta, September 22, 2010 - Drumheller Institution has been placed on lockdown to facilitate a search of the institution. The lockdown and search are being conducted for contraband, based on observations and intelligence gathered, to ensure the continued safety of the public, staff and inmates.

Drumheller Institution will return to normal routine when institutional managers have determined that it is safe to do so. Inmate visits have been cancelled until further notice. Visitors are advised to call the institution in advance of attending.

Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km southeast of Calgary, with a total of 566 medium security and 71 minimum security inmates.
