FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCK DOWN AND EXCEPTION SEARCH GRANDE CACHE INSTITUTION

Grande Cache, Alberta, October 10, 2010 - On Sunday, October 10, 2010 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Warden of Grande Cache Institution authorized a lockdown of the institution to perform an exceptional search.

The search is being conducted to ensure the continued safety and security of staff and inmates after acting upon information that a potential security breach was observed.

All visits to the institution are cancelled. The institution will re-open and return to normal routine when it has been determined it is safe to do so. Visitors are advised to contact the institution in advance of attending.

Grande Cache Institution is a medium security federal penitentiary with a population of 251 inmates. The institution is located approximately 433 km northwest of Edmonton.
