FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Drumheller, Alberta, October 31, 2010 - At approximately 12:13 a.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2010 Drumheller Institution staff found offender Justin WOOD unresponsive in his cell. Emergency medical response commenced and an ambulance was called. The offender was taken to Drumheller Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Next of kin have been notified.
WOOD was a 35 year old offender serving a sentence of 6 years, 5 months, 15 days for offences of Robbery, Trafficking, as well as Break, Enter and Commit.
As in all cases where an individual dies in custody, the police and coroner are called to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km northeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 497 medium security and 72 minimum security inmates.
