FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE AND RECAPTURE FROM ESCORTED TEMPORARY ABSENCE DRUMHELLER INSTITUTION

Drumheller, Alberta, October 18, 2011 –On Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at approximately 1810 hours, Drumheller Institution was notified that Donald FOWLER escaped from an escorted temporary absence while returning from Buck Lake, Alberta.  FOWLER was apprehended without incident a few hours later by the RCMP.

Donald FOWLER is a thirty-two year old first time federal offender serving an indeterminate sentence for Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Schedule I Substance.  His sentence commenced on July 2, 1997. 

The Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the escape and will take necessary measures to address any safety and security issues stemming from this incident.

Drumheller Institution is a federal penitentiary located 140 km northeast of Calgary, currently accommodating 508 medium security and 68 minimum security inmates.
