FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT DONNACONA INSTITUTION

DONNACONA, QC, January 22, 2004 - On January 22, 2004, Brendon Boudreau, an inmate at the Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary, was found hanging in his cell by correctional officers during a range walk at about 12:05 a.m.

Resuscitation was performed until the paramedics arrived. The inmate was taken to the Laval University Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead by a physician at around 1:16 a.m.

Brendon Boudreau, 38, had been serving a two-year sentence since February 12, 2002.

A coroner's inquest will be held to determine the cause of death. The Sûreté du Québec and the Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death.
